Some Questions that clients ask me frequently...

                 Frequently Asked Questions

Is all the grooming done in the van?
Yes, the van is fully equipped with air-conditioning, a bathtub, professional no heat dryers, a grooming table and all the necessary equipment to provide a professional pet grooming service totally within the van.

How long does the grooming take?
The average appointment takes about 60 minutes to 90 minutes to complete. This can vary depending on the breed, condition and length of coat.

How far in advance do I need to schedule an appointment?
Quite often I can book your appointment within 2-3 days. However, there are times during the year which become very busy and it is recommended to schedule as far as 2 or more weeks ahead.

How often should my pet be groomed?
In general a grooming every 4-6 weeks is recommended. The frequency varies on a per animal basis depending on breed and coat type. It is good for your pet to be groomed and/or bathed before becoming overly dirty or matted. For your convenience 2, 4, 6 and 8 week pre-booked appointments are available and highly recommended.

Should my dog have the anal glands expressed with each grooming?
I will check the anal glands as part of the regular grooming service and will only express them if needed. Animals naturally express these glands during normal everyday functions and they should not be hand manipulated unless necessary as this may cause irritation or infection. If the glands cannot be easily expressed, or are swollen, I will recommend the animal be taken to a vet.

My pet has a lot of mats, is it necessary to shave them out?
It depends on the severity of the matting. Minor mats can sometimes be worked out, but many times shaving down or stripping is necessary. Severe mats can cause skin irritations and hide other conditions such as hot spots, dermatitis, seborrhea, cuts, scabs, sores and redness. It is not unusual to encounter these problems when the coat is stripped from a badly matted animal and it is definitely in your pets best interest to address them.

Why does my dog shake when it's time for grooming?

It is normal for your dog to shake when coming into the Mobile Pet Spaw. Dogs are sometimes like children being dropped off at daycare. They may put on a "show" for the parents but quickly settle in when the parent leaves. It's best to calmly hand the pet to Me and NOT make a big deal out of leaving them. Your pets safety and comfort are my main concern when you trust me with grooming your pet. Some of my favorite dogs to groom were once very reluctant to trust me. Each pet has their own unique personality and I enjoy getting to know them and forming a trusting relationship with your pet.

What can do to help my pet enjoy the grooming process more?

*Brush your pet at home.

Some dogs do not like being groomed because it hurts! Brushing matted hair pulls hair and doesn't feel good at all. While I do use products and techniques to make tangle removal as easy as possible, there is no way to brush out a matt without causing some degree of discomfort for your pet. Just imagine if you never brushed your hair between beauty shop appointments! Also imagine if your hair was in constant contact with the floor, furniture and the outside ground in all kinds of weather conditions. Would you like it if your beautician had to brush through that mess? Probably not.

*If you are willing to brush your pet at home, I would be happy to demonstrate proper tools and techniques to make it easier on both you and your pet.

*If you simply do not like to brush your pet we can discuss a bath & brush only between grooming or choose a hair style that is shorter and easier to care for.
